SHEARER DRUMS

Hydra has designed and manufactured shearer drums for over 40 years and has gained a reputation around the world for problem solving when mines have particular production difficulties.

Whether it be dust, frictional ignitions, geological problems or low production rates hydra has designed and manufactured a range of shearer drums to combat all these problems which allows the mine operator to maximise production efficiency.
All drums are computer designed and tailor made for each longwall face to optimise the cutting performance of every installation and are constructed to withstand the demands of today's high production faces.
Unlike many other manufacturers, hydra designs and manufactures both point attack and radial shearer drums.
Hydra's Hexbore cutting system is the latest addition to our point attack range of shearer drums whilst Hydra's new heavy duty radial riblock cutting system is helping to break production records around the world.
All shearer drums can be supplied with or without RAC (rotary air curtain) capability to dilute any methane in the cutting zone and reduce the risk of face ignitions.
In addition the cutting systems can offer ITPP (incendive temperature potential protection) to minimise both dust make and the risk of frictional ignitions.
As shearer drums get bigger and stronger to match the power and capability of the modern range of shearers Hydra has identified a need to design and develop a new heavy duty radial pick system to achieve the necessary pick penetration, at the higher haulage rates, without increasing dust make.
The new range of wet radial shearer drums gives the following benefits to longwall operators:-

SUMMARY
Today's high production longwalls need a new generation of shearer drums to reduce cost and maximise production. Hopefully this web site will appraise engineers of the alternative systems and designs available and the improvements they can achieve by examining their shearer drum design criteria.
Any longwall operator who would like to know more about the latest shearer drum designs should contact us by e-mail or by telephone detailed on our web site or call your local hydra representative.
